Parent Information: School Year 2016/2017
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to
another exciting year at WMAES. I
am thrilled that your child will be in my 2nd grade class. I am entering my 15th year
as a teacher at WMAES. As many of
you know, I have three young sons: Hayden (9), Maxton (7) and Beckett (5) and a 1 year old Goldendoodle named Finely. They
have definitely kept me busy this summer! I am excited to be back in the classroom.
Below are a few
things we would like to mention as we begin our year together:
Take Home Folder
These folders will go home daily. Please check for your child’s folder nightly and return it
to school daily. If your child fails
to bring the folder to school they will lose time during their morning
recess.
Reading Calendar
As you know,
reading is absolutely fundamental in ensuring success in your child’s
education. Your child will be
required to read for at least 20 minutes per night. This reading calendar
will be located in their take home folder and will be collected at the end of each month.
Homework
Your child will
have homework almost daily since the reading calendar is considered homework. However, your child will be given
additional assignments as needed.
School Uniform
- Students are required to wear the WMAES polo shirt every day to school.
- Jeans must be plain blue and pants must be khaki.
- Shoes must be closed toe.
- Skirts are not allowed.
- Shorts must be finger-tip length or longer.
*If the dress code
policy is broken, a phone call home will be made and appropriate clothes must
be brought to school.
Scholastic Book Orders
Scholastic book
orders are a great way to get quality books at reasonable prices. Please check the special tab about book orders on the class blog.
Snack
If your child
would like to bring a water bottle to keep at his/her desk they may do so. A reusable water bottle is encouraged.
We will have an afternoon snack every day. Please
send your child with a healthy snack.
A few suggestions for snacks include: dried cereal, graham crackers, granola bars, cheez-its,
pretzels, fruit, vegetables, etc.
If your child has a food allergy, please let me know.
Birthdays
Birthdays are
important to your child. If your
child would like to bring a store bought edible treat for the class, please let me know so I can
plan accordingly. Also, in lieu of a treat your child could also donate a book to our classroom library!
Dismissal
The regular school
day ends at 2:37 p.m. If you are unable to pick your child up at that time
he/she will be escorted to the child care building.
